Christmas bauble:  Cookie "Spitzbube"

Did you know that a "Spitzbube" can be something completely different from a crook from the famous underworld? In some regions of the German-speaking world, this pastry is given the same name. But it is by no means a petty criminal. On the contrary. Extremely hearty and sweet, it delights many a palate and is also a crispy feast for the eyes when used to decorate the Christmas tree.

The light beige double biscuit is glistening white, as if dusted with icing sugar, and looks just like its edible counterparts. Its two biscuit layers, both of which have star-like spikes on the edge, have been placed slightly offset on top of each other, which emphasises the double shortcrust pastry. The centre was also designed very realistically: A heart, as if cut out with a mould, catches the eye. It shines like jam, as if it is giving a glimpse of the delicious filling.
