Its poison is considered deadly. Just touching its skin is said to cause fatal poisoning if you bring your hand close to its mouth. Phyllobates terribilis, or the terrible poison dart frog, is therefore the dangerous-sounding name of this little animal. Yet with its bright colors, it is actually a small marvel of nature.
The garish amphibian also cuts a wonderful figure as a glass decoration on the Christmas tree. It is enthroned on a golden clip not under, but on the fir branch - as artistic as it is magnificent. The knobbly body shimmers in a bright shade of orange. Blue-green arms and legs form striking contrasts. The glubby eyes and wide mouth have been painted on with a confident brushstroke. Color-coordinated glitter dots in red and turquoise give the dangerous frog a particularly artificial appearance.
